Awesome product! Smells like fresh sawdust, identical to the balm and oil. Unlike the balm and oil though, this product works very well. It lathers extremely well and seems to have the right oils in it to not strip your beard of its moisture. I hop out of the shower smelling like my beard just built a log cabin and drop kicked isis on the face! Get some!
This beard wash is fantastic! It would've gotten five stars from me if the bottle it comes in was better designed. I would prefer a pump bottle for use in the shower (having to screw the cap back on while holding the wash in the palm of my hand is awkward - also, the insert inside the neck of the bottle often pops out and I have to fish for it on the shower floor). Aside from packaging, I LOVE the beard wash. It really does leave my beard softer and more manageable. It lathers up very easily - in fact, on the mornings when I use it, I use it on my entire beard, face, neck, and shaved head). At first, I was skeptical about the directions of using just 1 to 2 times per week for max effect, but it's accurate - and it only takes about a dime's size amount in the palm of my hand to do the job. Love the beard wash, not the bottle. Will be purchasing again.
This product has saved my life. A while ago I started growing out my beard and started noticing red, itchy, flaky, dry skin all around my beard. I was using a beard oil but not a beard wash. I bought Mountaineer Brand beard wash and used it for 3 days in a row, following up with beard oil. The results were unbelievable. No more redness, itchiness, flakiness, or dryness ANYWHERE on my face. I now use the beardwash every other day and this has been sufficient to maintain the results. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
So far, so good. No complaints. I noticed a positive difference after the first time I used it. Beard was softer and felt more relaxed.
I went with the West Virginia Coal scent because I didn't want anything with a strong citrus scent. I didn't know what to expect, but I like the smell. It is a bit strong, but if there is any residual scent after washing, it is so faint that I don't notice it, so it doesn't matter anyway.
I've seen that some people are concerned about the small size of the bottle, and question how long it will last. The longest hairs in my beard are currently in the neighborhood of about 2 inches (I currently have a full beard and mustache), and I find a dime size amount to be plenty for a thorough washing. It lathers up thick and is easy to work through my beard. As most of us will be using it 1 to 3 times per week, one bottle will last most of us a long time.
I would definitely buy again.
I am an older guy who recently decided to grow a medium-size Van Dyke type beard (#3 setting on my new Remington trimmer) and this is my first venture into the world of beard products. This shampoo lathers nicely and the coal tar scent is light, masculine and dissipates almost immediately after you wash it out, which is fine for me. I definitely feel it makes the hair softer, more pliant, and with fewer stray hairs popping-out, as well as eliminating the itch I sometimes experienced before using it. I also like the fact it is about as all-natural as they come, as I have had some facial allergy issues in the past, and reasonably-priced. Coupled with their Mountain Beard Oil, which I like, too, new boar's hair brush, beard comb and Remington trimmer, my beard is now presentable to the world, lol!
Found the bottle's inner dispenser top constantly coming out when the top is unscrewed, which is a hassle in the shower, as many others have commented here, as well, but can be avoided if you only tighten the cap gently until it no longer turns, but not torque or over-tighten it. I think this prevents the cap from making contact with the inner dispenser piece and pulling it out, at least it works that way for me.

Feature Product
- HYDRATE AND CLEANSE your beard with all-natural mild Castile-based shampoo and Essential Oils
- STOP STRIPPING YOUR BEARD OF ITS NATURAL OILS. Regular shampoo strips your beard of the oils Mother Nature provides naturally. When you do that, your beard gets confused and either dries out or works overtime to produce extra oil to compensate. Either way, it's a mess!
- NOT ALL BEARD WASH IS THE SAME. Some contain harmful chemicals that will break the already fragile hair on your beard. Treat your beard with care and it will strengthen and become less brittle over time.
- FRIZZ AND FLAKES ARE A THING OF THE PAST when you use the right beard wash. A mild wash with essential oils once or twice a week is all you need.
- CLEAN, SOFT, MANAGEABLE, SHINY AND TANGLE FREE STRAIGHT FROM THE SHOWER
Description
Why not use regular shampoo? Regular shampoo is designed with your head in mind, not your face. To keep your beard looking tip-top, use something that is designed for a beard. Beard wash isn't expensive to use and it isn't hard to do. Give it a try. We think you'll find that the results will surprise you. It makes a BIG difference. The mild castile soap won't strip your beard of its natural oils and the essential oils help condition it, keeping it well-hydrated and keeping flakes virtually eliminating itching and flaking.
Lightweight, no sticky residue. Our beard wash is lightweight, so it won't weight your beard down, keeping it full without that greasy look or feel. And it washes clean with no sticky residue. Who wants a sticky beard?
Handcrafted/All-Natural: All of our products are 100% natural. We start with an organic soap base and add a special blend of organic essential oils that we feel are essential to keeping your beard healthy and strong. Each different scent is mild and light, not all-day clingy.

I've been using their WV Beard Oil for years now. It's a great product and very affordable, so many beard oils are outrageously priced, but not the Mountaineer Brand ones. So I decided to try the Beard Wash. It gives my beard a nice and clean feeling and smells fantastic.
But
The inner portion of the cap, that dispenses the liquid came loose. I could still get it out and use it, but it was a pain in the butt and dispensed more than I needed. I reached out to their customer service and they were amazing! They sent me a new bottle of beard wash along with a coupon for their site!
I wish I could give this product 4.5 stars because I only have one minor complaint, and that's the after-scent. Initially it smells delightful - not over-powering, very manly, and natural. The cedar scent is pleasantly subtle. After you apply it, lather, and rinse, however, the refreshing scent completely disappears and is replaced by one that is incredibly medicinal, strong, lingering, and more than moderately unpleasant. It reminds me of the smell of some public restroom hand soap. The kind where you instantly regret washing your hands. While the product says there are no artificial fragrances, I would still rate it almost as harsh as any chemical fragrance, which may be a deal breaker for some.
Other than that, I really enjoy this beard shampoo. The amount of lather it produces is fantastic. Other beard washes I've used required two applications. One to prep the beard, generating virtually no lather, and the second to lather and massage into the beard and skin. Just a dime sized dab of this stuff creates so much lather, I feel guilty for rinsing it off and not finding something else to clean with it.
Rinsing the wash off leaves my beard feeling super clean and soft and ready for oil and balm.
I bought some fragrance free oil and balm, but combined with the unpleasant after-scent of this beard wash, my beard ends up smelling like plastic and antiseptic. I need to find the right combination of products where I not only smell good, but feel happy about how my beard feels. Going to keep experimenting.
I hope Mountaineer tweaks the recipe on this stuff, because it so close to being awesome.
Finally I see that people complain about having to twist off the cap. No it's not ideal, but I ended up just replacing it with a flip cap from another bottle of beard wash I previously purchased. Problem solved.
I really like this beard wash. Very strong pine smell out of the bottle but it tapers off until you can barely smell it once you're out of the shower. I haven't had to use any beard balm/oil since I started using it because I feel like it leaves the perfect amount of sheen and moisture in your beard after you've rinsed and dried. Only thing is I wish that fantastic pine smell would linger a little longer after you've rinsed it out.
If you have beard dandruff and are looking for a product to get rid of it, look no further. I have been looking for such a product for the past several years and I have finally stumbled upon this miracle!
Pro Tip - Exfoliate the skin under your beard first and then use this to remove the dry skin and keep it away.
I purchased the "Pine Tar" scent and honestly, you can smell it a little while using it, but it doesnt linger - Which I count as a plus. (If someone can smell my beard, they are way too close to me anyway)
I must also note that I use this product in conjunction with beard oil so im not sure how well it works on its own, but I must say that after washing my beard with this shampoo, the dandruff is gone.
After using 4 different beard washes, my fiance was looking for a wash that he could use on his whole face and would help his dry skin under his beard. He said to me yesterday that this is the best beard wash he's ever had! His dry skin is gone, his beard is easier to comb, and the Timber scent smells really nice. His beard is about 5-6 inches long.
