I'm an older guy (52) with slightly finer than average hair. It has just enough body that it will do weird things if I go too long between cuts or (even worse) sleep on it. For most of my life, though, hair products were even worse. First there were slick greasy gels. Then there were sprays and gels that would basically coat hair in plastic, still looking shiny and producing *terrible* residue when disturbed. The current generation of waxes, clays, and pastes is *so* much better than I had remembered, and Challenger Blue is a good example of the breed. To me the hold seems *very* strong. Just a tiny dab is enough to keep a part or tame things on top. If this is medium hold, what the heck do you guys call strong and what do you need it for? The finish is matte, and I've never had a problem with residue. Nor have I noticed any odor. If you do, I suggest you stop sticking your fingers up your nose right after styling. It'll help your social life in other ways as well. I seriously can't think of a single way I'd want this product to change.
Start to finish fantastic product. I've been bouncing between several different hair products looking for the champion (old spice, crew, axe and more) and challenger takes the belt.
I'll start with my only cons, and march onwards to a narrative style essay of endless pros. The first is hardly a con because I think it is entirely justified. It is pricier than some of the nasty options out there. But the jar is substantial, and if you have the class to be pursuing styling cream in the first place, treat yo self to the good stuff. Second, the packaging was simply the jar wrapped in plastic. Would be nice to have a little box or something, so that the opening of the item would match the grandeur of the product itself. In fairness, the design of the jar itself is suave, modern, and appealing. Looks great on a bathroom shelf, or held in your palms to replace the human hands that previously had that occupation. On to pros.
Product has a slightly bouncy, gelatinous feel, much more fluid than some of the clays like Crew. Easy to dig out a portion. Scent is extremely refreshing, like a lighter male cologne. Not so overpowering that I wouldn't mind smelling it all day (and night, as the smell would be welcome company this cold winter) although it dissipates quickly after application. Roommate took a sniff and immediately asked where I got it.
Product seems to apply its hold much quicker than its competitors. The hold is strong enough to keep my thick hair in place propped up, but doesn't feel grimy. More like salty seawater hair after a week of skinny dipping with my cheating ex in Thailand.
Absolutely no shine, praise whatever higher power you believe in. Kristin was agnostic. After the illustrious middle school years, the goal is style, not 50s greaser shine. This provides exactly what it promises - simple, elegant, seemingly effortless style that is easy to apply. The added touch of water soluble composition makes it a breeze to rinse off. And let's face it, you only throw this stuff on when you're sprinting out the day. Those seconds count.

When I first opened the lid, I was glad to have such a gentle, barely noticeable smell. I really liked the feel of the product on my hands as I got some from the jar--not sticky or over-gooey like other products I've used. It made it easier to apply. My first try was on my slightly damp hair and I used it to style all around my head. I was able to get the fluff I wanted without stiffness. My hair still had a soft feel to it. It was not greasy at all. It lasted the whole day. This is really a great product. I'm looking forward to trying it for some different styles. (I used the medium-firm hold.)
I used to used Mister Pompadour Natural Beeswax Paste for Men which has a nice smell as well with a decent hold; for the price Blue offers much more and seems to hold better, longer. The feel of it is not exactly non-sticky but since it provides quite a bit of hold it wis to be expected. The finish is also matte with no shine at all- didn't realize that I liked a little shine until I saw how matte this product makes my hair look. The smell and the general hold is fantastic though, will be buying again.
I don't normally leave reviews, but I am taking the time to write this one. As of recently I started to let the top of my hair grow longer than a buzz cut, so I needed to style it. I started in the stores buying anything from cheaper options to names brands that always left a weird residue, or the hair Dried super hard, or it looked wet and shinny. Long story short, I was extremely unhappy and frustrated to the point I almost cut my hair back to the short, easy length again. Then I found this product on Amazon. Worth every single penny. Best product I have found. This product has lifted my hair style to another level without all the frustration. Ok I read many of the other reviews on this product and thought the writers must be crazy… but this stuff is AWESOME! I guess I am crazy too... I saw a friend of mine who does TV spots and he had it in his arsenal of products. I decided to give it a try because I hate how moose plus hair spray weighs down the hair. I have been using the product for 2 days and it is amazing. Very subtle Fresh clean smell. My hair is fuller due to the lack of hair spray/moose and it lasts ALL day. The best part is that it does not take much product to get the job done and it does not make my hair look wet or shiny. No more 1990’s moose. This product has restored my tired aging pompadour to its illustrious youth.
I’ve been searching the internet for months to find a replacement hair sculpting product for my very picky husband after his favourite brand from another manufacturer was discontinued, and now I’ve found it! It’s the perfect solution for styling his fine hair, leaving neither dry flakiness nor oily residue... in fact, it’s invisible and I think he even prefers Challenger over his former hair wax. PLEASE don’t retire this pomade
I like Challenger Blue. It's easy to spread through my fingers and the hold does indeed last all day and is true matte like they say. The smell is nice, and it doesn't linger when I'm done styling. It's also really easy to wash off my hands and rinses out easily in the shower. Good product! Oh yeah. I can take it with me in my carry-on, so that's a plus too.
I have medium length hair (3-4 inches) and have been using different products from different companies for the last few years (Crew, Mitch, Tigi, others) . All of them have some combination of good things and bad things. One will have a good hold, but the scent is too strong, and another will be good, except that it’s really hard to wash out.
Challenger Blue is the product I’ve been looking for! It’s got the best of all worlds. First of all, the hold lasts me all day. Secondly, the smell is AMAZING. The jar comes with a little card insert that said “Clean, Subtle Scent” and I couldn’t agree more. The smell is great and more importantly, it’s just the perfect amount.
Beyond that, I really like the way it’s easy to spread in my fingers and hair. Some other products are hard to scoop and rub between your hands to make them spreadable. Challenger Blue is like cream. It also rinses out easily.
I use it when my hair is still a little damp from the shower and let it dry in for 5 or 10 minutes while I finish getting ready. Don’t have to worry about my hair for the rest of the day. It’s nice.

Nice consistency for a hair cream with hold. It is easily worked into my hair and leaves no shine. Washes out extremely easily as well, which is a huge plus for the hold it provides.
Looking forward to trying it out as a pre-styler. I normally like using a small amount of style cream to pre-style pompadour and undercut hairstyles before finishing with a pomade for high hold, high shine Imperial Barber Grade Products Classic Pomade, 6 Oz. or a paste for flexible matte finish Mister Pompadour Natural Beeswax Paste for Men, Hair Styling, 2 oz.. I suspect the Challenger Cream will do the trick.
