use this product almost daily on my beard and goatee. My wife loves the smell, a real turn on. I cannot keep her off me, in fact, if I want to watch a ball game, I don't use this otherwise, she cannot stay away from my face. I have lost weight due to the physical excursion caused by this beard balm. So, if you like to watch the ball game, you need to pass on this, but if you like having your wife in your face worshipping you like Odin himself, this is the balm for you.
The good:
Firstly, I love this beard balm. This was my second purchase of it, so you know I liked it the first time! It is the right consistency for my somewhat coarse, medium length beard. It's not so oily that it provides too little hold and not so waxy so that it is too difficult to melt and apply to my beard. I am not a guy who wears a lot of scents, and I find that most beard oils and balms are very scent heavy, but not Yggdrasil. It has a light, bright scent. I would still probably prefer unscented, but if I have to have a scent, this is a good choice. It is slightly more expensive than the other brands I had tried, but after using it, I am definitely willing to shill out a few extra dollars because a good product is a good product.
And for the problems I had:
Now, I ordered this in the late spring, and we had an unusually hot week and as such about half of the balm had melted and dripped out of the container into the box. I typically try to contact the seller if there are any problems and Mad Viking did not disappoint. They responded within a couple of hours with a promise to send a replacement. Quick, fair customer service is how you build repeat customers (and the reason I chose to write a review).
My barber used some of their beard oil on me, and I loved the scent, unfortunately he was out of that scent so I bought their Ragnarok oil at my from him a few months ago. I thought I'd like the citrus scent, while not unpleasant it reminded me too much of Fruity Pebbles versus the what I thought it would smell like. Regardless, I was wanting to try the balm to have something that's a little stronger hold and I picked up the Balm in Mjolnir scent and love it! The scent is more heavy towards cedar and sandalwood, but with a slight hint of peppermint.
I have a fairly short beard, but slightly longer at the chin (probably only 1/2"-3/4"). The balm helps add a little hold to keep some of the lose hairs a little better in place throughout the day, and I don't feel like my beard drys out and gets as itchy by the end of the day using the balm, as it did with the oil. I bought some wax from another manufacturer to try to use for more formal occasions; however, it required using a blow dryer to warm the wax enough to use. The Mad Viking Balm is great, because you can scoop it out without warming it. It feels a little gritty, but the friction of rubbing your hands together melts it down quickly and gives you some decent hold through the day.
Love it. Very light on scent, but I have found that to be the case with most balms. If you want a stronger smell, use some beard oil fist. This melts really easily in your hands and blends well into your beard. Hold is light to medium.
Mad Viking is becoming my go-to beard product company. I have several of their oils as well and they are great.
As a beard balm in terms of oils and slight hold it does very well and has a great ingrideint list. My skin and beard seem to like it after a week of usage but.......the scent is non existent. When I apply it I am smelling nothing but the ingridents and bay rum with a hint of lime. To be fair I do not expect a balm to have a heavy scent but this one doesn't have one honestly. From a performance standpoint is it seems great but a scent standpoint it fails.

So far I've tried three different beard balms from Mad Viking, and I love everyone of them! They work great and smell amazing. I really enjoy the scent of the Laderrock. Definitely has that leathery smell, but isn't overpowering. They do a great job of conditioning your beard, and really helps keeping it in place without being too greasy. Mad Viking makes great products and they get them to you in a timely manner. Can't say enough about the company. Will keep coming back for more.
Mad Viking balm definitely provides a better level of "hold" than the other balms I've tried. It really minimizes stray hairs and helps to keep the beard looking good. Check out their website before ordering a scent, since (at least as far as I can tell) the Amazon page doesn't really tell you what you're getting
Berserker.....smells like lemon pledge to me. Strictly my opinion could of been my body chemistry not mixing well. Contacted the company and they went above and beyond to fix it. As far as the product goes I love everything about it except the scent. Has a great amount of hold without being all stiff. Real easy to emulsify and it last all day. Plus the viking theme is pretty dope too.
Very good product. I've tried many other beard products out there, but so far this is the only one that provides the hold, shine, good smell, and most importantly, it does not hurt my beard hairs. Using other products, I have always had a big problem with split ends on my beard hairs. That practically has stopped once I began using mad Viking balms. I recomend trying out all the different scents, this one smells a lot like cedar. I've also tried the Radnorock before and it smelled morr citrusy. All good smells, but its good to have variety
I've tried a few beard balms, and this is in my top 2. The scent is great, it's not too strong and it doesn't linger all day. What I really love is that the balm doesn't feel oily when applied. This one goes on smooth, makes my beard feel nice and doesn't leave residue. Some other balms I tried felt like I coated my face in petroleum jelly and no matter how many times I wiped my face off, it felt like an oil slick!
