This is my first time trying a product like this. I have sensitive skin and break out easily, so I didn't want anything too greasy or oily. The instructions say to scrape off some of the balm with your fingernail, however, I find it works best to just move my fingers in a circular motion which softens the balm and primes it for use. Then I work a small amount of balm into my fingertips and rub them together, which pretty much breaks the balm down into a viscous oil. From there, I begin stroking it into my beard then comb it through. I don't work it down to my skin because I don't want to clog my pores.
The scent is very subtle. It's strongest when I first start working it into my fingers, but dissipates quickly as I work it into my beard. After that, I really can't smell it at all. The Orange is quite pleasing, and the Sandalwood is subtle and earthy. I like having the option of both scents and this was a great deal for all that you get. The mustache comb is really small and almost useless for my purpose. And the sandalwood comb is cool but doesn't work as well as a hard rubber barber's comb, which does a better job of spreading the balm through my beard. Still, I do like the sandalwood comb as an alternative.
Great set, nicely packaged and subtle scents. Overall, pretty great. I would buy again.
