Toss up with Gillette Fusion... better than Dorco and Harry's
I've also used Dorco/Pace (aka Dollar Shave Club) 4 and 6 blade cartridges
and Harry's
and "Blade 5" (knock off sold in CVS).
I'd rate Gillette and Schick the best. Takes my beard from 3 or 4 or five days growth to smooth in a few passes with nary a nick.
For me, Schick wins on price, and I think maybe less clogging since overall head is a little bigger leaving more space between the 5 blades.
And maybe less swipes to get to smooth. With grain and then against grain is adequate if I'm in a hurry. But I have to go over some areas an extra couple of times to get "perfectly" smooth. (That's true for me for every razor I've ever used.)
The plastic power vibrator handle for the Shick Hydro is bigger than the Gillette Fusion Power - Perhaps its been discontinued -- I only found it here at Amazon... works fine but I'm about to try the sleeker non-powered Hydro handle...
I wanted to like Dorco/Pace but they are more prone to clogging, even the 4 blade. And maybe takes a few more swipes to get really close.
I also wanted to like Harry's - it was very much like Gillette Fusion in overall feel EXCEPT for me, I almost always got a few nicks (blood!) especially when using starting with a new cartridge. Not painful, just bloody! After a shave or two on a cartridge... okay...
The "Blade 5" knock-off I picked up in CVS - total loser and waste of money - hard to get a close shave - and dull and/or clogged after one or two shaves.
This "system" sure does lubricate your face. The shaving itself feels smooth, but you don't realize the shave isn't as close as you thought until all the shaving gel is washed off. Oh, it's very good, but there was still a tiny bit of stubble left on my neck and chin after many strokes --and I don't have a heavy beard. The bank of blades is also so large that I'll have to continue buying cheap one- or two-blade razors occasionally to shave closely around my goatee and tidy up around my mustache. Schick needs to include a blade cover or cap of some kind for travel. I like it very much; just not ecstatic about it.
I've been shaving for over 60 years now, and have tried just about everything from electric razors, to safety razors and whatever. The Schick razor is far superior to its main competitor, especially the competitors 5 blade version which is next to useless in my opinion. Furthermore, these blades are inexpensive by comparison and last a very long time. I am on my fourth week and I shave everyday. They are smooth as silk, shave without nicking my face. I can shave without any gel or foam when I'm in a hurry and I still get an easy and smooth shave. I'm glad I discovered these in my old age since I am almost anal about shaving
I have tried pretty much every shaving bland on the market. Make that almost every shaving product on the market. I should write a book about my experiences! It's been a 20 year journey for the perfect shave. Well maybe not perfect but good, comfortable, affordable shave. I found the Schick Hydro Sense to be super expensive in the retail stores so when I saw it on Amazon at a much more affordable price point, I decided to give it a try. Now, I have a very heavy, tough beard. Definitely a challenge for blades. I try different techniques to soften my beard some to make shaving a little better. Meaning minimize nicks and irritation to my face. This includes a hot shower, washing with a moisturizing face wash or soap, pre-shave lotion, and I've tried a variety of high-end shaving cremes over the years. My real life testing shows that the most important element for a good, close, comfortable shave is a sharp fresh blade. Now using a new blade every day would be best, but expensive. So I change every week or so. With my beard that can be a challenge. Keeping the lade clean and dry between shaves gives them a little life. You can also try a blade cleaner/sharpener. They add a couple shaves to your blades life. Also, buying a bunch when they are on sale can make it easier to toss them more often and give you better quality shaves. The Schick Hydro Shave blade is top quality. And has a lotion strip that adds value to the blade by laying down a slippery lubricant. Many other blades try this and they don't do much. This one works well for 3-4 shaves. The Skin Guard feature I was skeptical about. But it works. It reduces the pressure of the blade on your skin with a sort of shock absorber. You can turn it off if you want, for getting around your nose for example. I thought this feature was a plus and it leads to less nicks. All in all, very good shave and a good value.

I shave a pretty big surface area, upper torso, face (sometimes) and my head, on occasion, my GF will grab my blades and use them too... even with all that shaving, as long as you keep the blades clean, these things last, and last, and last... i usually end up discarding them because the gel runs out.
I will admit though, on occasion I'll get what seems like a bad blade - right out of the gate i'll get razor burn (usually on my stomach and chest), but aside from that these things do a great job.

I've been shaving my legs since I believe the 5th grade. Knees and ankles are the worst. I am pretty sure I've tried ever brand under the sun, along with every brand of shaving cream. Look, my razor doesn't need to be pink, it just needs to work well and last a long time. I am sold on these. They are cheaper than most brands and they last a LONG time. One lasts me around 2 months, shaving every other day, and leaving the razor in the damp shower. My husband also uses them and loves the little trimmer thing on the back to get up under his nose better. I have no need for that part, but the razor itself is pretty awesome. I also stopped using shaving cream in an effort to eliminate unnecessary chemicals in my life and switched to using an olive oil based bar soap. Several years ago I tried both the Schick Hydro 5 and the Gillette Fusion. I decided the Schick was the better blade. I used it for a while and then, like many, got frustrated about the cost of the blades. I switched to Harry's. It was not as good a shave but I rationalized that I was saving money. Recently I saw the Schick blades on Amazon at a very reasonable price. I bought a pack of 8 for only a little more than a Harry's 8 pack.
There is no comparison between Schick Hydro 5 and Harry's. Schick's shave is closer and more comfortable. The blade floats over your face, and I do not have to go over the same area again and again to reach to smoothness I want. And the flip top that allows you to shave just under your nose is a huge bonus.
I appreciate the great price at Amazon on these blades. And since I have been reminded of what a superior shave you get with Schick, I will think long and hard before I consider anything else.
We have tried so many brands of razors and I never gave this brand a second glance until I began pretty extensive research on amazon for the best. most affordable razor, this is the best over any Mach 3, Gillette, or Remington razors. Both my husband and I use only this brand despite it being for men, women's blades suck at getting a close shave. The sub & save price is the best, Gillette fusion is way too expensive and I think these do a better job anyway.
The moisture gel strip doesn't come off like the Gillette's do and I didn't even know about the blades special flip precision trimmer until my husband recently pointed it out. The blade lasts about 2 weeks with daily shaving for me and a bit longer for my husband. I recommend using the Cremo Shave Cream which I just recently discovered - it's really good for a close shave. The Hydro 5 is a little better than the 3 but I buy whatever is the best value.
I have been using these blades for about two years now, and find that I get an excellent shave from the blades. I have a very tough beard, and find these blades do well at cutting, but I do have to make two or three passes in some areas to get a good shave, but I have this issue with other razors also. I use the power razor with the vibration on. I was skeptical of this idea, and never tried it before purchasing one of the razors about two years ago that was a great deal, and found the vibration was more beneficial than I expected.
I also wanted to point out that the area above the blades flips back allowing you to shave the area above your lip directly below your nose. I did not read the instructions and was initially concerned that the razor would not shave that location, but it works well once you know how the razor blade operates.
Obviously, these are not cheap disposable razors. One of my top concerns whe purchasing razor blades is how long will they last. I generally shave 5 - 6 days per week, and can get at least 5 to 6 weeks out of one blade. I have purchased disposable razors, which still cost about a third of the cost of these razors, but I am ready to toss them after half a dozen shaves, which, in the long run, I find more value in purchasing these razor blades over disposable razors.
I've used many different blades over my thirty some years of shaving, and would rank these blades among the top. I would definately recommend this blade to anyone who wants a good shave, and is mindful of the value in buying good blades over cheap blades.
Even though these are men’s razors, I prefer them over the ones marketed to women because they don’t have that thick edge around the blades. I find these much easier to use, especially in the bikini area. The blades themselves last me a few weeks (with shaving every few days), while the moisture strip lasts only a few uses. I’ve been using this particular razor for a few years now and love them. I like that the replacement cartridges fit neatly underneath the razor and base; they fall out pretty often though because it’s not a tight fit; this feature could use some adjustment by the manufacturer. I also don’t leave my razors in the shower which I think helps them last longer. I gave five stars because the price here is much better than anywhere else I’ve seen them.
