I looked upon this with a jaundiced eye. It seems too easy and kind of inconvenient, but with the preponderance of positive accounts I went ahead and ordered some.
In short, it works. Completely, and quickly.
Obviously we all have different reasons for hair loss/thinning, but mine is a crazy mixture of hormones and severe illness. I wasn't sure that mere castor oil could help.
1) Oil:
It is a viscous, sticky, highly odorous oil that reminds me honey. The scent is very similar to toasted sesame oil used in Chinese cuisine. There is no way to disguise it, so plan on staying home while using it. I don't hate it, but I would not want to wear it out of the house.
2) Application:
I didn't want to wear this stinky, sticky stuff every day so I applied it undiluted twice a week, massaging it into my scalp only (some accounts have folks having issues with the oil damaging the ends of their hair, or of being difficult to wash out, so I avoided putting it directly onto the ends) and wrapped my head in an old T-shirt and slept in it. I used a large squeeze bottle (think ketchup or mustard container) that I got from Amazon. That made it really easy to control. Some folks advocate thinning with other oils, but I like that this stuff kind of stays put and gives me time to work it in rather than running down my face and neck.
Double washing my hair the next day removed the oil and leaves my fine, straight hair feeling basically normal.
I also put a little on my brows and eyelashes. Why not, right?
3) Result:
After a single month I have a fresh crop of tiny baby hairs, between a quarter and a half an inch long. I've been obsessively monitoring my hairline for about a year now and I can promise you that these are new hairs in thinned areas. My once-prominent widow's peak had been the first casualty of the original hair loss and I'll be darned if it isn't coming back. I'm delighted!
My eyelashes also appear to be getting thicker. I know this because many seem to be doubling up in coming out of each follicle. I think that it has a negative impact on my makeup though as, even after careful cleansing, there is still a residue of sorts that causes my eyeliner and eye shadow to slip off and crease. Not a big deal for me- I just remove and reapply- but might be an issue for some.
A small bald patch in my brow is filling in and has become invisible. I have black brows and dead white skin, so the contrast is noticeable and the repair welcome. One strange benefit is that my eyebrows, even after washing, seem to hold their shape better and longer, kind of like I've used some of that brow gel. Odd, but I'll take it.
4) Opinion:
Black Castor Oil works well and it works quickly, is affordable and effective. I am pleasantly surprised. My next step is to try the un-roasted castor oil because with this smell I can't see ever using this around anyone else and I definitely plan on keeping this in my beauty regime.
Jamaican Black Castor Oil is a wonderful product! There are many pros and little cons. However pros definitely outweigh the cons. There are many uses for castor oil, but I use the oil for my hair. My mother has thin eyebrows and applies some on hers to help thicken her brows. Some other uses are: cuts, burns, aches, moisturizer for skin, and massage oil. I keep 4 bottles in the house at all times.
Pros:
1. Softer hair
2. Stronger hair
3. Minimum shedding
4. Hair growth
Cons:
1. Smell is not all the great
2. Oil is thick
Look online for ways to incorporate Jamaican Black Castor Oil in your hair routine. There are many uses for this product.
I love castor oil I put it on my eyelashes at night and about a week later I had an entire new row of eyelashes. I never even knew you could have more than one row of eyelashes.
I've been relaxed since I was 16 and am now pushing 40 and have decided to go back to natural. I have been using JBCO for a few years now for my relaxed hair and will continue to use in my natural journey. Never fails and their packaging is SOOOOO ON POINT!!! It's like as if they send it packaged to Amazon and Amazon just puts it in the box to ship because the other items in the box with the JBCO ain't packaged like it. Anyway, LOVE the product!! Will always come back for more!!
It worked to regrow my husband hair. But the smell is awful so I took away a star only for the strong odor.

Feature Product
- Promotes hair growth.
- Black castor oil has an age old reputation as an multi-purpose healing oil.
Description
Black castor oil has an age old reputation as an all purpose healing oil. It's commonly used for hair and scalp problems, skin conditions, aches and pain, laxative, breast massage, fibroid, first aid, for cuts and wounds, burns and much more.
Thus far this castor oil has grown my hair one inch in a short period of time. It has also recovered my bald spots in the front of my hair line.
If you are a fan of black castor oil, Tropic Isle is one of the better brands i've tried. It is a very thick, but penetrating oil. Because of this, I would dilute it with a lighter oil like grape seed or avocado, but you can absolutely use it by itself. You just have to realize not much is needed and you should only concentrate on specific areas. Like if you want to use it on your hair, focus on your scalp or ends. Or if you want to use it on your face, use it on the driest areas; my nose and the skin around my eyes are areas I tend to use it on. When it comes to locking in moisture though, castor oil works like no other. It is especially good for thick, kinky or dense hair. I would definitely order it again from amazon.
Ordered a second batch of oil and let me just say, if the company continues with their great delivery time and quality product.... I will never buy my Jamaican black Castor oil from anyone else!!! The first 2 bottles lasted about 5-6 months!! Not sure if it has made my hair grow but I have major growth while using it and I have retained length (natural hair queen)!!
I have been using jbco mixed with coconut oil to oil-cleanse my face for a few years now with much success. Before, I couldn't use it on my scalp or edges, which was disappointing because I've heard how others use it to help grow their hair. I recently added a dabble of marula oil and rosemary essential oil to use this combination along my edges and so far, so good. I will continue this routine to see if I can finally thicken my edges, which I've been trying for years. Regardless, I can't be without jamaican black castor oil because it's excellent for cleansing my face and I keep finding new uses for it.
This is the only castor oil that suits my scalp. I have been using it for years (mixing it with other oils). It actually helps with hair regrowth and hair fall. You'll need to use a very small amount, so one bottle will last a long time. I will continue to repurchase it as it became one of the must have essential for my hair
