I've never cut my own hair before so needless to say, I was concerned about how it would come out. I used this kit the other day for the first time and I was very pleased with the results. My haircut came out balanced, very decent actually, although a bit short and it took some time because I was unfamiliar with the process. Yet it looks as good as the cuts I've been getting at Great Clips; the hairs are cut cleanly, not having jagged ends. I'm sure with practice I'll get a lot better, so along with saving money and time on cuts, I'll be able to get (and more importantly maintain) the look I want.
Highlights: This product is an EXCELLENT value at $40. The clipper is powerful yet amazingly quiet, a lot quieter than the clipper I'm used to when I frequented professionals. The thumb-adjustable taper control on the clipper is a big plus. The 2 AA trimmer works great and is more powerful than my Norelco beard trimmer which I've been using that uses 3 AA's. The personal trimmer works great and you shouldn't be afraid to use it in delicate areas because it does indeed cut, not pull, and it is indeed safe. You can change heads on the trimmer easily, and the fact that it uses only 1 AA battery is a plus as well.
I recommend getting the 1.25" and 1.5" guide combs along with this kit. Sold separately.
Hair Cutting Tip (for do it yourself guys): For a finishing touch, place a long piece of thin masking tape on the back of your hair, at the bottom where you want to **square off** your hairline. Use mirrors to help with the positioning, making sure the tape is perfectly horizontal. Then using the trimmer you can go right up to the tape while trimming away the unwanted hair. This will remove all your neck hair and will square off your hairline without even having to use any mirrors at this point. It works great!

Now, I'll address some of the concerns about the kit that I've read here on Amazon:

- Who cares if reflective plastic is used? The clippers work great and to get actual chrome the kit would cost a LOT more.
- The product description DOES tell you that you get guide combs up to 1". Somebody didn't read that obviously.
- OK, the scissors are not great. That's not a good enough reason to downgrade the review to 4 stars.
- Somebody mentioned that they would like rechargeable batteries and awarded a 4 star review because of that. LOL I guess they never heard of rechargeable AA batteries.
- The cape works just fine and if the velcro detaches there's a simple fix: Crazy glue
- So what if the bottle of oil included is small? Any regular all purpose tool oil will work just fine, there's nothing special about the oil.
- Somebody complained that they couldn't register the kit online. That's funny, I had NO PROBLEM registering the kit, Product #79524-3001 which will register the clipper, trimmer, and personal trimmer all at once.
- Somebody wanted videos. You can watch instructional videos on the Wahl website, as well as download their instructional and supplemental pdf's.

UPDATE June 15, 2012: I've been using this kit for four months now. My haircuts are actually *better* and more *consistent* than what I was paying $15 for at Great Clips. I would tell them "rounded and full up top, short and tapering on the sides". What I usually got was an uneven top which wasn't blended well with the sides. Now I can do that myself with this kit and I can do the entire cut in less than 40 minutes (total time including cleanup).
Bottom line: Using this kit is just like combing your hair. That's the only skill. The trick is to know *how* to do this effectively. Just take notes and refer/update them with every cut. Once you get the hang of this you'll be amazed at how well your cuts turn out.
Finally, the kit is holding up well, with no problems.

This kit is great for home groomers, and beginners. There's definitely a lot of options in types of styles, clips, levels, many smaller clipper devices to make those refine and clean edges. Easy to clean, application of oil is also easy, just make sure to clean with a good bristle brush and oil it after every few uses. To increase the longevity of the product and kits.
Somewhat easy to do by yourself but better job with GF cutting it. Covers all the bases of cutting. Apron, combs and trimmers are cheesy but very functional. Impressed with sharp blades. Be sure to use the blade oil. The main cutter/razor is quality built. Nice carry bag and lots of snap on pieces for different cut lengths.
After using cheap clippers for the past 3 years, I upgraded to these, hoping my husband would let me cut his hair more frequently. These clippers are amazing. Super quiet, I cut his extremely thick hair in 2 minutes with very few swipes. With some old conair ones we had, it took at least 15 minutes and about 3.6 million swipes. He said these don't pull at all and were very gentle. I liked them because they're larger and fit in my hand well. Wishing we would have bought these much sooner! Can't attest to longevity, but these seem well made and like they'll last for a very long time with proper maintenance.
I wasn't looking to spend an arm and a leg on something I use infrequently. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn't know that I needed something as much as I need this. I legitimately feel a hell of a lot better about my appearance. All devices work well as I expected them to. The only thing I would note is that there are a lot of "filler" items in here that I immediately tossed. The apron, scissors, and mirror quickly found their way into other hands. Everything else was great though.

Bought this for my boyfriend after his other Wahl trimmer wasn’t doing so well. We went from a cordless to a cord which we were nervous about. Thankfully it was an easy and, well worth switch. This kit includes a beard trimmer, buzzer and nose/ear hair trimmer with all of the attachments needed. I would recommend this product because it works great and is a reasonable price!
You want to cut your hair yourself or others in your household, then this is what you need. I have used other Wahl's products and I know how great they are. This Wahl set is all you ever need. It has everything you need to cut your hair the way you want to and you can't go wrong. Can you imagine that it has its own hair cutting instruction which I have never gotten with other products.
The only thing I didn't like about this product is that the mirror is too small and pretty much USELESS. To cut your hair yourself, you are going to need a bigger mirror. Other than that, I love it.
I recommend this product to everyone.
I previously had a wahl clipper that I used for 3 or 4 years before it got really loud when I used it. This clipper is pretty much the same as the one I had before with much more equipment put into it to give the buyer a full hair cutting experience. I had expected the two smaller trimmers to be more cheaply made but I was pleasantly surprised they were sharp and heavy giving a great experience when trimming hair to a more precise angle or look. The cutting shears it came with were great, the cape was nice, everything overall was great. If this clipper lasts as long as the other one I bought before it is well worth the price and will indefinitely save you money in the future cutting your hair at home.
The package arrived already torn open on both ends of the box as though it was a returned product. Everything on inside however was accounted for and still in original packaging. The trimmers don’t seem to be as good quality as the Wahl trimmers we already own (and have had for many years) but they do the job well enough. Overall not bad for the price considering everything that is included.
I told my husband for months it was time to replace his old Wahl clippers and he was so in love with them that he refused. Until the day he was cutting his hair and they gave out midway through. I showed him this set and he didn't think he needed or wanted all of the accessories but since it was around the same price as the one without them, we got this anyway. He likes this one so much better than the old one that he's cutting his hair even when it doesn't really need it yet! The trimmers are GREAT and he loves the new accessories and special tools. The clippers themselves are so sturdy and reliable. I would recommend this to anyone.
