I purchased this soap a while ago and have grown quite fond of it. The scent is a bold but not obtrusive eucalyptus with a more subtle note of mint and tea tree oil. It lathers quite well, especially once you get a little out of the tin and produces a thick foam with very little work that provides great razor glide and almost no irritation.
My only, very minor, gripes with this product are that it lacks menthol (which is just a personal preference so i won't let it impact the review) and the tin got a little rusty (which is my fault for leaving it in my shower, so i won't dock them there either)
all in all, a great product and i would highly recommend it.
Just used yesterday for the first time. Great product....I never buy shaving cream in a can and finally ran out of the shaving soap I had and decided to try something different. Dampened the brush put in on the bar in my shaving soap container and LATHER....LATHER...LATHER. Love the subtle scent and excellent shave.
This soap makes a nice lather, and it smells amazing. Also the puck is going to last a really long time.
My husband cut the puck in half put half of it into the cup he uses to get a lather, and stored the other half in the container that it come in (a nice metal container that will keep it from getting any moisture in it.)
It leaves his skin feeling smoother and looking cleaner with no sticky residue that the canned shaving cream leaves.
A first experience with Taconic, but this is an excellent soap, up there with the best offerings from the traditional purveyors which I've enjoyed for many years. Time will tell how this puck holds up, but so far so good. Invigorating scent - definitely a summer or, if needed - a weapons-grade wake-up sensation. A smooth clean shave, and no irritation after 2 or 3 lathered passes (a problem with some soaps from new producers). Easy to charge a semi-wet brush, requires some experimentation by adding a few drops of water at a time while whipping the lather (and it's a great lather!). I didn't have good luck direct face lathering with this soap but you may have a better technique than I've been able to develop these past few decades. I prefer the ritual of a brush and bowl anyway.
That said, the best way Taconic could improve this robust shaving experience would be to offer a companion aftershave balm. Until then, a post-shave wet rub with a small dab of Proraso eucalyptus and menthol pre-shave cream is a nice finish. Also, this soap is a great follow-up to a shower with Bath and Bodyworks' eucalyptus and spearmint shampoo, conditioner, and body soap start up.
The soap seems to be a good quality soap. I have only shaved with it a few time but the smell is nice but not overpowering. You can smell the mint in it but it doesn't burn you skin. With the new block of soap the metal container is a little tricky to get a good foam at first. Once you get a pocket created it will be fine.

Description
Handcrafted by our artisan soap maker in New York's Hudson Valley, this moisturizing shave soap features natural coconut oil, olive oil, and antioxidant-rich hemp seed oil. These oils will condition, moisturize, and protect your face from razor irritation while softening your beard. Combined with bentonite clay for razor glide, our shave soap provides an unparalleled shave experience. Taconic's lathery shave bars offer a superior shave when compared to most commercial gels and creams. They produce a nick-free glide with a super slick lather! Suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
This is my first shaving soap that I have used. I use it with a Parker Safety Razor Silvertip Brush, and a nice old coffee mug that works as a shave mug.
The scent of this product is very pleasant! It is not overbearing at all, but quite obvious when you open the container. It doesn't leave a very strong or obvious smell on your face, but it is there for someone close to you to smell.
I have only used it 3 times now. My lathers have consistently gotten better, and I am now comfortable enough with it to say that this soap can produce a good lather. I did some research and watched some videos online to get some guidance on the subject. After actually attempting this the correct way, the lather was produced easily.
Of course the ingredients are great! I previously used Art of Shaving pre-shave oil and cream. This soap gives me basically as close and smooth a shave, at a much lower cost. The Art of Shaving products would actually leave my chin irritated after the shave, even after using their balm. This soap does not do that.
It's a fun ritual, using the soap and whipping it up. Using this Taconic soap makes it that much more enjoyable!
This shaving soap is great. It provides for a smooth shave and has a refreshing smell. Easy to lather up and apply with a shaving brush. I love it and recommend it to others who like a refreshing feeling after a shave.
Smells nice and left my skin feeling soft and smooth. Lathered very quickly using a badger hair brush. Only negative is that it was too large for my shave bowl, so I just cut it down a bit to fit it in. Love the natural ingredients and the fact that it's from my home in the Hudson Valley.
Great sent that is not overpowering. I have extremely sensitive skin and this works great. I usually break out, get extremely itchy, or have a burning feeling when using anything scented on my skin. I took a chance and was glad I did as I have not had a reaction to the soap. (I have used it now over 10 times). The mint does not burn and leaves a clean feeling. It came with a nice instruction and tip sheet which was helpful.
My husband loves it
