I have never left a review on any product I've ever purchased. Always thought it was a waste of time but I was so amazed by this razor I thought a good review was warranted. To be honest when I first got this razor I was extremely disappointed with it but it was my fault. I was a brand new beginner when I bought this razor so the first thing I did, like any newbie probably will do is I tried to strop it for no reason. When I did I did it wrong and cut halfway through the strop. My fault. If the razor was sharp when I got it I wouldn't know because that dulled the soft chinese steel right away. I tried shaving with it and it pulled every hair it came in contact with. So it took me a half hour but I finally got through a painful shave. I kept using it for 2 weeks after every other day or so and stropping it correctly thereafter and the shave never improved. I finally got fed up and went to the art of shaving at the galleria and bought a 200 dollar German steel razor, but while I was there I got a chalky stropping paste the clerk reccomended. I got home and started shaving with the German steel razor and it was amazing. No snags and a super smooth shave, but halfway through shaving I had a bright idea and stropped the gold dollar razor using the paste with the strop from this kit. After I properly stropped it with the stripping paste I finished shaving the other half of my face with the gold dollar and it was a completely different experience. Oh my god, it was as good as the 200 dollar razor! I swear. Moral of the story is I'm happy I have 2 razors now but the softer chinese steel is very easy to hone out and sharpen to a pristine razors edge but you absolutely need stropping paste to do it. And as its softer steel you have to strop it more often, but for the money it works amazing. Please don't make the same mistake I did. Strop it with stropping paste!!!
I've thought about getting a straight razor for a few years but never wanted to just drop hundreds of dollars on something I don't even know if I would like. I got this set as a gift for my birthday and couldn't be happier. The set does a fine job, especially for the price to get me started and now I feel more comfortable saving up for some of the higher end stuff. Highly recommended
Great set if you are just getting into straight blade shaving, good blade, good brush and shaving soap. Turns out I wasn't all that interested in shaving with a straight blade and finding that out after getting this set saved me money over finding out after getting an expensive razor, soap and brush.
I bought this for my boyfriend for Christmas. It seems to be very high quality, sharp blade, soap smells good. He really liked it. I just wish the tie/hanger for the leather strap was a little longer.
Perfect for me. Used to straight razor shave before. Great for getting back into it.

Description
Shave Ready Straight Razor - Inside this amazing set is a 6/8" round point classic cut throat straight razor (This straight razor will be professionally sharpened (honed) for you). Our forefathers often considered the greatest generation used straight razors. Would you like to stop paying so much for blades? Don't you want a better, closer shave? You can experience the closeness and of using a real straight razor. Not only is this one made from real high carbon steel, but it has been kiln hardened. That's right, it has been baptized in fire. Fire hardened steel that is oil quenched holds its edge, unlike those "Display" straight razors. This 6/8" straight is built to last and for daily use. It is easy to maneuver and see. The bottom jimps give you a great grip. The round point is the desired choice for beginners. The razor is a Gold Dollar China Made well respected affordable shaver! This one may not be the bell of the ball with the plastic scales, occasional scuffs and logo that can fade, however you will pay about 1/4 the price for the same quality shave as a Dovo Straight Razor. At this price it cannot be beat and, if you have any issues with quality we stand behind our product for any manufacturer defects. The rest of the set consists of the Highly Praised The Blades Grim Luxury Shaving Soap, High Quality Satin Tip Synthetic Shaving Brush so you can clean and apply the shaving soap, Classic straight razor slip case (box) for proper storing of your blade and a GB Buckingham and Sons 3" Wide Synthetic Strop for stropping your blade. This is a great Straight Razor Kit for anyone looking to start straight shaving. You won't find a more affordable deal on a complete Straight Razor Kit anywhere else. Thank you for looking. Please note that the Green Card Stock display behind the products is not a retail packaging box but rather a 8.5" x 5.5" card as a special thank you with your set description and overview on it.
I'm not sure what a freshly honed blade feels like so I can't attest to how shave-ready it is out of the box, but I was able to shave with it and I've been getting better each time I've used this product. The kit is really helpful for getting me started. I bought creams from proraso for pre and post shaving to go along with the shaving cream in this kit. The creams were necessary starting out because I had cut myself by accident a few times. After a few months shaving with a razor I don't nick myself or feel razor burns anymore but the creams smell nice.
I strop my blade before every shave and maintain it with mineral oil after every shave. I know after using it for a while and maintaining the blade that this thing is going to last me a long time! I bought a safety razor with this in case I didn't like shaving with a straight razor, but I fell in love with my razor and I could never go back to the ridiculous 4 or 5 blade razors, ever. My wife tried the safety razor and she loves it! She says it gives the best shave she has ever had with no burns. In the end it worked out great for both of us!
My husband Ray wanted a straight razor to start shaving with, and this was a perfect set for him to start with. Great gift for your man.
This was a perfect kit to learn how to straight razor shave. It was shaving sharp right out of the box. The razor could be a little higher quality, but I had a great experience with this product.
Only way he shaves.
This is a good starter. If you're going to be serious about it then save your money for a better one. You should spend about $300-$400 for a nice razor.
