This product has a lot going for it that I think more people should take notice of.
First: This pomade is very good. It works great with my hair. On the tin it says that it is "firm hold". Rocky Mountain has other products like clay and paste but they all say "Firm Hold". I would say that the pom has a slightly stronger hold than other major brands that I've used, so you will use less of it. But the hold is excellent.
Second, You get more for your money. Rocky Mountain has a great price point, but on top of that you get 5oz in the tin. Most major brands are 4oz or less. Rocky gives you a little more, and I'm glad.
Third, The logo and container are really nice. First the container is a metal tin, instead of a plastic jar. Also I like the logo and presentation. This company is based in Canada, which is unique because a lot of the major brands are based in California(I've tried one from New York, Australia, and Holland).
One criticism: The pomade has no scent. Other brands will have a citrus, or sandalwood, or something like that. I did see on Rocky Mountain Barber's website that they have a cedar spice scented conditioner. I hope they will add some scents to their other products too.
Try this product
I have thick hair that I like to have in a loose, layered style. When it gets to a certain length, I need a firm pomade to make it work. I've tried a lot of different brands and types to find one that is strong enough to give a decent hold, but light enough that I can layer it. This stuff is exactly what I've been looking for. Previously I relied on Reuzel High, but it was a little too strong and I had to cut it with water. This pomade is, I would say, right between a "regular" strength and firm. They really nailed the middle ground here.
It's not 100% perfect: the hold doesn't last as long as I'd like (generally good for about ~10 hours), and the clumping thing that others have pointed out is definitely true. I brush it in with a comb and that helps, but sometimes I need to use a little water to un-clump it. Neither of these issues are enough to make me not want to use it anymore.
A big consideration here is the price. This stuff is very inexpensive per ounce compared to other, similar pomades, and with no loss in quality. The branding and the metal tin it comes in are nice. Others have commented on the smell (good and bad), but I honestly hardly even notice it, and I've got a pretty strong nose. There's maybe a very light sharpness, but that's it. Maybe I'm just totally insensitive to the fragrance, but I get nothing from it.
Altogether:
+ Great value for a quality product
+ Excellent for thick hair
+ Strong hold that is also flexible
+ Nice tin/attractive branding
+/- You may or may not like (or even notice) the smell
- Not super long-lasting
- Mild clumping
The two negatives are really minor. 10 hours is an acceptable length of time before needing to re-apply, and clumping is a common problem across brands. So it's not perfect, but I haven't yet found a pomade that is. The price you pay for what you get here is excellent, and I've finally found the holy grail between hold and flexibility. This will for sure be my new standard when my hair gets long enough that regular strength doesn't cut it.
My beard is curly, and what I wanted was for something that provided a firm hold, without drying and flaking or powdering out 15 minutes after application. I was hesitant at first just due to the fact it appears we go from one product to the next with each and everyone saying its going to do what you want, only to find out it doesn't completely fit the bill. This Pomade is what worked for me. Wet the beard lightly, apply as needed, comb through if you need and done. I can go all day with this Pomade in and not have to worry about looking like an unkempt ruffian by the time I get home at the end of the day..... which is my normal look anyway but for the sake of work and social events, its nice to have something that finally works.
To preface this review, I have straight, thick Asian hair (medium-long combover) and I work in the hospital as a nurse so I need something that'll last the running around and helping patients move. Best rated pomades I've tried in that order: Imperial's Classic Pomade, THIS Rocky Mountain Barber Company, then Suavecito's Firme Hold.
FINAL AVG. SCORE: 9.4/10
Summary: Strong hold, semi-matte finish. VERY light scent. Easily workable into hair. Washes out easily.
Breakdown:
Hold: 10/10. As above, this thing keeps my thick, straight Asian hair in a flawless combover during a 12 hr shift as a RN.
Smell: 8/10. Has a VERY light scent, which is a good and bad thing. Good if you don't want something overpowering like Suavecito, but bad if you want a great smelling product.
Workability: 10/10. Consistency is just like Imperial's pomade (maybe even thicker). Applies to hair pretty evenly so you'll be able to style your hair as your please and lets gravity do its thing, making your hair flow nicely, but has GREAT hold. Doesn't dry too quickly (but not too slow) so you can take your time and style how you want it without rushing.
Sheen: 9/10 (for my personal taste). Dries on semi-matte, as advertised. I like ultra matte products like Hanz de Fuko's claymation (which is my favorite product when I have short-medium hair).
Washability: 10/10. Washes right out with water alone, even before applying shampoo. Probably the easiest to wash out out of all the pomades I've tried!
Restyling: Have not tried to restyle. Will update ASAP.
This is a high quality pomade that will stay in your hair all day. That being said, they were not lying about it being a firm hold, maybe a little too firm if you don't apply it with water. This is not really a pomade that you can keep adjusting your hair all day. Once in, your hair will basically keep its shape. I would recommend this to someone looking for a water based pomade that holds for a whole day. Also, it washes out easy everyday.

Overall works well for my hairstyle, which is a short men's textured fohawk spiked style. I'd buy it again. small amount needed. About a dime size. Starts out very sticky and pliable and then after a minute or two of working into the hair and fingers turns to a smooth lotion type feeling. Washes out very easy with very little shampoo needed...unlike my bed head mastermind product that requires me to shampoo my hair twice to only remove 80-90% of the MM. if you want thicker spikes or thicker textured wet look don't mess with it too long after you put it into your hair. If you want thinner spikes, smoother look, less wet looking and more of a texturized dry look, use less product and work it into the hair a little longer to break down the stickiness. a little of this product goes a long way.
Great Stuff!! My first time using Rocky Mountain Barber Company product and I am not disappointed. I usually use Axe or Dapper Dan pomade, but wanted to try some new stuff. Glad I did, because this RMBC pomade has fast become one of my favorites. Slight aroma makes it nice and it goes on the hair very easily and smooth. Stays put all day long even when I wear a hat taking it on and off. I just bought and used a beard brush from RMBC also and like the pomade, is an outstanding product. I have become a fan of RMBC and look forward to trying their beard balms and other products.
This pomade is a really good deal for your money's worth. It lasts a LONG time, and it has a very light lemony-woody scent that is pleasant. It has a really good hold that can last for the entire day (I used this while going to school and then work), but it also washes out fairly easily since it's water based.
I will say that a little bit of this goes a long way- you don't need a lot of it on your hair except for targeting flyaway hairs. The only issue I would say I had was that you have to warm this up for quite a bit of time in your hands- it noticeably becomes MUCH smoother and more easy to work with after a good 10-12 seconds of hard warming up with your hands.
Overall, a solid product that's a good deal. I'll be getting this again!
Have used a lot of these. Tried a lot from Wal-Mart and didn't like any of them. I loved the one my hair cut dude used and bought a thing of it...but it was tiny and super expensive. This rocky mountain is pretty close to the expensive stuff and comes with over double the amount and costs like 4 times less.
It smells good, my girl likes it. Has a nice texture and looks good in my hair. Lasts a while too. Doesn't look greasy..
I like in Ohio where the weather chances daily. Overall I found this product worked more like a gel once applied to hair which isn't a bad thing if that is what you are use to anyway. However; I notice that this product didn't work as well on humid days nor is this intended to be used for folks that like to comb their hair throughout the day. So if you are a style once go all day person that lives in a dryer climate you are good to go!
