Taylor of Old Bond Cedarwood Shaving Cream, 0.33 Pound

Taylor of Old Bond Cedarwood Shaving Cream, 0.33 Pound

This was my first foray into shave creams, and I have to say I'm loving it. I can't compare this to other Taylor's products or other high-end shave creams, but I will say that this lathers faster and lubricates a lot better than the shave soaps I've used, and feels and smells a lot better than your average drug store shaving products.

This stuff lubricates exceptionally well. Searching online, I started with the usual advice of an "almond-sized" dollop, but quickly found that was way too much for me to lather in my hand and get the right consistency. I'd say a dollop about the size of a pea (maybe a big pea) is enough to get a rich lather that's still light enough to get a close shave. And with it being a cream, I get to shave (no pun intended) a few minutes off my morning routine since I can lather in my hand and not screw with warming up a shave mug. With the small amount necessary to shave, this jar will probably last me several months, so the investment is not quite as steep as it seems.

The smell is really nice, too. It's not a cedar wood aroma, like you'd smell in a hardware store. It's more like... cedar sap, or the inside of a high-quality cigar humidor, minus the curing tobacco smell. It's a subtle, pleasant, and natural masculine smell that I personally really like. I don't want to smell like cologne, so something like this is really right up my alley. 10 of 10, heartily recommend.

I have an unusually thick beard that is difficult to cut. I’ve never found an electric razor that wasn’t terribly painful to shave with as they don’t seem to be sharp or powerful enough to cut the hair on my face. So I’ve always used safety razors and lathered with a shaving mug and brush with some kind of soap specifically designed for shaving or with a shaving cream in a can. I’ve been shaving for 40 years and have used too many brands of shaving cream or soaps to remember. I’ve spent the last 40 years looking for the perfect balance of beard softening, close shave, skin protection and scent. I’m happy to tell you guys that I’ve found the best of all these in the Taylor of Old Bond Street Shaving Creams. There are many scents but my two favorite are the Cedarwood and Sandalwood sents—they are super manly smelling and last throughout the day. They have a full line of skin care products that are truly superlative. They sell a sample pack in which you get a small sample of each scent they sell. I suggest buying one of those and finding your favorite scent regardless of which you will experience the greatest, closest and most comfortable shave ever.

I liked it. I've been using their sandalwood--my last three or four shaving cream purchases have been the sandalwood--and when I saw the cedarwood I thought switch it up and give it a try. It has a much woodier scent. I read some reviews where they were saying it didn't have enough or any scent to it. It does have a soapy scent, but it is shaving cream after all. I found the same with the sandalwood. If you're impression of the scent comes from sniffing a bottle of essential oil, or if you're expecting that level of intensity, I don't think you'll be satisfied. Although I'm not dissatisfied with it, I still think I'll go back to sandalwood it's closer to that old time barbershop shop scent I prefer.

I've tried these years TOBS Sandalwood and Avocado and I really loved them but, the Avocado wasn't much for my attention, I thought it was better, it's a little oily and I didn't enjoyed much. This Cedarwood soon became one of my favorites, starting with the leather, the smoothness of the shave and the scent, they really did a wonderful job making this amazing product. I will continue to buy it, period.

I've been getting Taylor of Old shaving cream for a couple years now. This is my first time trying Cedarwood and while it's a nice mellow smell I don't think I would describe it as cedar. Still though it's a great product and not offensive to my sense.

Great lather, and an amazing shave. The scent is ok, but not the quality of cedar scent I expected. Requires far less product to lather up than similar creams. I do prefer the sandalwood however it's great when I wanna change things up. I've never had a bad product from Taylor.

Smells like a lesser version of something but not really cedar. I give it 4 stars only for the scent. All TOBS provide a smooth silky lather for excellent protection! A great buy if you like the scent.

This has become my go to shaving cream. Works well with a brush, not as well if you just lather by hand. I prefer the perfume of this one over the other flavors.

Went from a Mach 3 to a safety double edge razor using this cream, and wow.....I won't be going back. The Cedarwood is my personal favorite. Much better shaving experience.

Just wet your shaving brush, get a dab or two onto your brush and use your face to lather up (make sure to premoisten your face with a hot towel.) Lathers up nicely, although it dries out on the neck somewhat quickly (and you''ll get some airborne flakes.) Just moisten your brush and remoisten the dry area (usually, your neck.) Overall, makes shaving a pleasurable experience.
