I compared this beard trimmer very carefully and read reviews here and in Google. This seemed to be the best of the bunch. You're wondering about the heading, right? I purchased the more expensive BT5210/41 because I wanted the body comb that comes with it. I wasn't sure that it was worth it but the $10 coupon (now suddenly $15) made the price difference largely go away.
My comments about the Basic trimmer (BT5210/42) are purely 5-star comments so I won't dwell on them here, The outstanding assets of this product are: 1. Very powerful, does a yeoman's job removing heavy rubble, 2. Very flexible with the ability to dial in a wide range of cutting heights from a half inch down to a 64th inch, enabling you to remove enough non-beard facial hair to possibly avoid a second shave with a safety razor, 3. allows corded trimming, if preferred or if charge runs low, 4. recharges fully in 1 hour vs possibly 8 hours with some trimmers, 4) does not require oiling, 5. washes with running water. In all I'm very happy with the purchase.
Now ... what I want to share with you is some possible deceit on the part of Phillips/Norelco in offering the model BT5210/41 for an extra $13 (when I bought it one week ago) less a $10 coupon, now a $15 coupon. This is so stupid! They have what they consider an upscale version by throwing in a pouch and a body comb for a ridiculous extra fee and then immediately eliminating that fee with their coupon. Why the heck not just have a single model and sell it at the lower price. They clearly have a manager somewhere who needs a checkup from the neckup.
OK, a few words on the benefits of the 2 throw-ins on the "deluxe" version. The pouch is filimsy, totally nonprotective, and probably undesirable to most people. A dollar store wouldn't even carry it because no one would pay that much. Now to the "body comb". I will bet the farm that there is no such thing as a "body comb". This comb is a carbon copy of the "beard comb" in the basic model. The only difference I could see, under extremely careful examination, is that it has a silver stripe painted on it instead of a red stripe. I called Norelco support to ask about this and they couldn't explain what the difference was. The woman I spoke with asked me to hold the line while she located the product and compared the two combs for herself. Naturally my call was disconnected shortly and with no call-back. You'll love this: I did a search on the Norelco web site of BT5210/41 and it isn't shown as a product!!!! Bottom line is my advice to buy the "deluxe" model, which is now cheaper than the base model because of the upgraded coupon, and you'll receive a second beard comb free. That could be important because the trimmer won't be of much use to you if the comb breaks. A replacement comb is not listed on their web site as an accessory.
That's it folks. I hope someone found it worthwhile to read this lengthy review. --- Sam
I was used to $20 to $30 trimmers so the build quality on this one really surprised me. It does a great job at trimming body hair with the included guide. For my beard I like using 5mm for a clean look. It also does a good job at cleaning up my neck hair line without cutting my skin. The battery is pretty decent, I don't need to recharge it that often.
I’ve had this since April of 2018 and it’s worked great for me. Like many others I was looking to replace an old trimmer and had trouble finding an adequate option, but this one is great.
I looked thru the poor reviews and a lot of them seem silly. Like the noise? Lol. It’s a trimmer, it’s not going to be silent.. imo it’s not loud at all, about average in the noise dept. And as for cutting the skin, I’d have to insist those are probably user error. There IS a wrong way to go about trimming a beard after all. Granted, I primarily use this for maintaining a neat stubble look, but I’ve worked in the men’s grooming industry and am very familiar with shaving and beard maintenance, as well as the proper tools to use.
I believe for the price this is a solid option. Is it a set of professional clippers? No. But for someone just looking for some at home beard maintenance every few days or so I feel it’s a solid option. Big wins are the ability to rinse it out under water, and the ability to use it while it’s plugged in just in case it’s dead when you go to use it after a while.
This works great. I've used a full, short beard for most of my adult life and always used Norelco. I replaced a vacuum model that didn't work as well anymore, and actually was more of a hassle to keep clean. This model does just let my full-beard trimmings fall, but I can rinse it under the faucet after each use, and just sponge up the sink -both quicker and easier than maintaining the vacuum model. I have the small comb attachment installed full time and using four adjacent levels on the zoom adjustment is all I need. May order a second as a backup because I haven't been this satisfied with a Norelco model for the last couple of models/versions I've tried.
Norelco should include a handy stand, maybe a small charging stand, or have a square bottom that would allow me to stand the device up in my cabinet or on the vanity. Also, I have large hands, but my only other recommendation would be to make the device an inch shorter than it is: maybe a stubbed flat bottom.
My wife got this for me as a gift and she made an excellent choice. I have used Norelco beard trimmers for about 10 years now and this is by far the best one I have ever owned! I fell in love with it the first time I used it due to the precise shave and reduced time. With my old trimmer I felt like I had to go over the same spot multiple times, but with this trimmer one time over is all you need. This trimmer also gets the hairs right under my nose that my older trimmer would not. It has such a smooth shave, my face never feels irritated after using it. It is easy to clean and switch attachments, but I have not used the body hair attachment yet so I cannot comment on that but I am happy that is comes with that option. Overall I am very pleased with this trimmer and would highly recommend it!

Description
Philips Norelco Beard Trimmer 5100 with Dynamic Hair Guide for beard and hair. Voltage- 100-240 Volts
My old trimmer -- another Phillips Norelco -- was adequate-- but barely.
I almost hesitated to buy another product from them. THIS model is FAR superior in every way.
It charges quickly .
Combs / Guides work very well.
Precise Height-Adjustment ( lowest setting is barely stubble-- and my beard is tough / wiry)
BARE blades DO NOT snag or cut skin. ( my old one made me bleed often)
It is water-proof ( rinses clean under faucet)
-- AND has removable blade-cartridge.
My beard needs trimming about twice a week-- so I am very pleased.
Love it. I've been using this trimmer for three months now, trimming a couple times a week, and that's been three charges and no dulling of ability. I waited to review because I wanted a few charges--to make sure it had staying power--I just didn't expect it to be so efficient.
The levels don't move while shaving. I've had some that loosen over time, or that never were very tight to begin with, so I'd set it to 12 and by the time my shave was through I'd be rocking a 9, which looked lopsided so the whole face would have to be redone as a 9. Even though they are solidly in place through the shave, the large-barrel dial makes it really easy to adjust to the length desired.
Overall I'm impressed, would buy again.
I've owned and used this for over 6 months now, and very pleased with the purchase. I was skeptical about this being able to be used as clippers for cutting my hair, but it did the trick. Not as strong as a dedicated, wired clipper, but plenty powerful enough to do the job.
Battery never runs out for beard trimming, and never got noticeably low even after a long haircut session.
The length setting system is very confusing, but not rocket science to figure out. I do wish the attachments were not proprietary, so I use use my full attachment set. The long setting isn't as long as I prefer.
Pleased with the purchase and no issues whatsoever.
8 months of use and I have had no issues
I have no problems with uneven shaves. If you go over the area enough it all ends up even for me
no maintenance or reliability issues
I don't take off the plastic guides much because the reviews have indicated those wear out first, so I haven't had any issues with the plastic guides breaking
Listen people, i was looking for a trimmer for months because i could never find a right one, with trimmers, battery life, and good cost. But this all changed once i bought this item. Its the best trimmer ever based on battery life, the way it cuts well, price was amazing. You will not be disappointed buying this. Also the built in trimmer is amazing not having to worry about losing clippers everyday. BUY THIS AND YOU WONT REGRET IT.
