Sounds strange that a nose hair trimmer would have a learning curve, but this little trimmer does.
First, let me say that as trimmers go, this trimmer is far superior in blade quality and ability to trim than any of the cheap battery operated crap you're going to get at Tarjey or Wallymart or Wallygreens. This is a pretty high quality gadget. Very heavy, and quite substantial with high quality blades.
But, it's a MANUAL trimmer, which means you have to learn how to use it properly. It's not as easy as flip the switch, wait for the buzzing to start, then start wobbling it around up there.
It takes a little practice - you have have to learn to insert and twist back and forth *smoothly* and *QUICKLY*. Only THEN do you remove it. Those of you who are cramming it up there like a gorilla and twisting and pulling are definitely going to get a rude awakening when you start yanking your own nose hairs out by the roots while you try to act manly and not scream like a little girl because it hurts REALLY bad when you do that.
Insert. QUICKLY Twist-Twist-Twist-Twist. Remove. = No problems.
Pulling the trimmer out of your nose in mid twist will absolutely result in an eye-watering removal of tiny nose hairs by the roots.
The little one-star monkeys that are complaining because it's yanking their nose hairs out painfully haven't taken the time to think it through and figure out how to use a manual nose hair trimmer.
Once you take a minute to learn - you'll realize what a great little trimmer this is and realize that you'll never have to buy another trimmer again as long as you live.
I've had this thing for just under nine years (I was shocked when I saw the purchase date. I'm getting so old.) and it was starting to hitch a little as you would rotate it. I had disassembled it and cleaned it, but to no avail. After 8+ years of dedicated service, it was finally starting to show its age.
I resolved myself to just having to get a new one. Not a huge deal, I felt like 8+ years was a good run for such a small item. I got to the page, and saw the lifetime warranty. I followed some links and emailed Groom Mate on a Sunday. That same day they replied and said they'd get me a new one right away with my address. I sent them my address, and got a shipping notification first thing Monday morning!
Fantastic and personable customer service, fantastic device. You really can't do better than that combination. I recommend this item without hesitation!
this is an awesome product. I wasn't quite sure given some mixed reviews, but if you read the reviews that tell you how to use it you will be more than pleased. the key is to place, hold in place (don't twist or pull), spin the bottom back and forth, then remove. I can not even tell that it cut anything except for the sound of the hair snapping. my old battery operated one did pull, yank especially as the battery wore down and then worked only some times without having to clean the battery contacts. and of course the batteries were a pain and cost to your wallet and the environment. this is a great improvement and I don't think that you can go wrong with the lifetime warranty. can I get a discount if I buy 5 of them for Christmas stockings?
I've seen quite a few reviews that complain about this trimmer pulling on hair, but I have not experienced anything of the sort. The day I got it, I poked it into the old schnoz, rotated one hand one way and the other the other way...then figured I must be doing something wrong because I didn't feel anything at all. So I pulled the trimmer out and looked at it to see that there was a bunch of hair inside it, which surprised me. I checked the schnoz and - lo and behold - it looked great! I've used the trimmer three or four times since, with similar excellent results.
I do rotate both parts of the trimmer, and I'm fairly dexterous, but I don't completely understand what other reviewers must be doing. I actually look forward to using this trimmer because of how well it has worked for me. Being made of stainless steel, I'm not sure it will even wear out, but if it does, I'll purchase another right fast.
Back around 1995 or so, I bought a battery powered nose-hair trimmer made by Panasonic. That thing was awesome, and it lasted almost 20 years before the motor burned out.
I bought another Panasonic one. The hairs never seemed to be able to find the cutting blade. I would go at it for 20 minutes only to find a couple of wayward hairs that were extremely annoying. So I purchased a higher end Panasonic one. That one worked for about two weeks before it turned into a nose-hair plucker. Ouch.
Thanks to a few reviews here, I opted to try for a manual one. I'm happy I did.
Rule number one: do not move it while you are twisting.
Rule number two: When you do move it, move it slowly.
Rule number three: It works best if you try not to move it at all unless you are inserting or removing it from your nose.
The results?
I can't believe how well this worked. Now, I don't exactly have a forest up there. I just have a few wayward hairs that never stop growing, and they become extremely annoying if I let them go, say, longer than a week without doing anything about them. But when I inserted and twisted this bad boy for the first time, I watched as about 6 or 7 wayward hairs drifted down to the bathroom vanity. Two more inserts and two more twists complete my work for nostril number one.
I did have it inadvertently catch on a hair once, and that would have been excruciating had I been moving the trimmer around quickly. However, the trick is, if you feel it catch, stop what you are doing and twist. That will cut the hair and free it from the blade.
I hope to never buy another nose hair trimmer again.

The Platinum XL nose hair trimmer is made from solid stainless steel and will never rust or corrode. Clean_up is easy_simply hold the Platinum XL under running water to rinse out the hairs or for a more thorough cleaning simply remove the small set screw to remove the inner shaft. Operation of the Platinum XL nose hair trimmer is quite easy. Simply position the rotary blade end of the trimmer inside the nostril and twist the bottom portion of the trimmer in a gentle back and forth motion. Within seconds all protruding hairs are removed. I grew really tired of the battery operated trimmers that would give up the ghost in 6-9 months, so I thought I would give the Groom Mate a spin (yes, terrible pun intended). It does exactly what it's supposed to do, if you know how to use it. If you stick this up your nose and then start spinning, it will pull hairs and feel uncomfortable. If you do as many reviews suggest and start spinning before you insert it into your nostrils, it will slice through the hairs cleanly and efficiently. The two-hand operation takes a little getting used to, but it's all gold once you get the process down. I find that the Groom Mate cuts every bit as close as any battery operated trimmer I have used and it should last me many years. As for the reviewers complaining about cutting themselves, I really can't imagine how they doing it unless they are purposely trying to draw blood. If you are tired of the short life span of battery operated trimmers, then hit that 'buy' button. This is well worth the price.
I bought this for my husband. I was looking for something that was not battery operated since my 2 year old son likes to find screwdrivers in the house for the sole purpose of taking batteries out of their gadgets. Also, what's not to love about something that you don't have to replace the batteries? It's tiny. Standing, it's floor print is 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch circle. It's about 3 inches tall by 1/2 inch wide. So there's that. You can easily find space in your medicine cabinet for it.
Like other reviewers said, you have to turn it QUICKLY and the blades will cut the hair. If you turn it too slowly (according to my husband, and he's only used it once, but seems to have figured it out), then it will pull slightly on your nose hairs.
Overall, very pleased with it.
High quality- better results than the battery-operated trimmers.
This little trimmer is amazing. It is kind of retro; you twist the bottom of it to turn the blades. Think push lawn mower vs. gas-powered mower. Somehow it works better. The blades are sharper, it's smaller, it just works better.
If you turn it too slow, it will "pull" a bit and that will hurt. So turn it faster.
Advantages:
-smaller
-no battery
-sharper blades than battery trimmers
-high quality
-works better
Disadvantages:
-takes a tiny bit of coordination to use
I purchased this after reading the glowing reviews and figured it was worth a try, as all of the other nose hair trimmers I've purchased had died after a few months and eat batteries! I thoroughly read the reviews with regards to avoiding hair pulling and pinching and was happy I did! It works so well. In fact I had to keep looking inside the trimmer to check to make sure it actually was trimming because it felt like nothing was happening! It did a great job trimming, its easy to use, easy to clean, and well made. I love that its guaranteed to last a lifetime too. Only downside that I noticed was that it doesn't get as tight a trim as electric trimmers do and you definitely need two hands to do it. Also, as others said, start turning the trimmer before inserting it into your nose to avoid pulling! Overall I am really happy I purchased this item!
In the past (past 10 years) I used one of my wife’s many tweezers lying around to pluck my nose hair. Yeh I would tear up a bit but my pain tolerance is pretty good. I saw this somewhere and decided to buy it and give it a try as I'm getting older and we seem to loose hair where we want it and get more were we don't. This works really good and whoever invented this must had a forest growing up their nose and wanted something as durable as say a nail clipper. Something where you don't have to worry about power and so on. I hope it stays sharp because the concept is really good. When my wife asked me about it, I said: "it's for nose hair honey". She said: "but you don't have any nose hair...I never noticed any". I lied and said I just started getting them -I did not tell her that I was using her tweezers to pluck my nose hair ;-)
