Well, that was amazing!
I ordered a bottle of this on a whim when it was on sale recently. Way back when, I used to shave with a safety razor but have been using an electric razor for the last few years. I got this thinking I would throw an occasional 'proper' shave back into the rotation on mornings I have some time.
So I've got time off and my 3-4 days of stubble has gotten unruly and itchy. Time for a shave. I did at first make the mistake of trying to apply this with a brush. That did not work - it's meant, I think, to be applied directly to the face, as it really doesn't foam up much, if at all.
But then the shave ...! I expected to get a decent shave with a few knicks and cuts after not having used a razor for years. Instead, a single pass with the razor took off all of my proto-beard more easily than any electric has, ever, leaving a close shave comparable to the *best* electric (not mine) I've ever used.
After a second pass, I had a face smoother than any electric has *ever* gotten it, I did not have any nicks, and by the time I was done I would still have been mowing away at the stubble with the electric's trimmer attachment. And that was all without needing to make any against-the-grain strokes!
I shaved for years with a safety razor and various creams/bars/pastes. This surpasses all of them. It made the shave FAST, EASY, and CLOSE. The fact that it is used directly from the bottle without having to whip up any foam with the brush makes it that much easier. I'll be using this as my go-to shave cream from now on.
I am writing this review comparing the cremo shaving cream to the bill jealousy shaving cream as I think these two or the closest products in performance that I have used. The cremo shaving cream is one third of the cost of the jealousy shaving cream. I think the jealousy comes in a close second to the Creamo. The container which jealousy comes in is very hard to use. It's very stiff and hard to squeeze, very user-unfriendly. The Bill Jealousy shaving cream is perhaps the most difficult shaving products to use which I have encountered in 50 years. I think the cremo shaving cream works a little better, comes in a much more user-friendly container, and is a far better value for the money.
I switched to a double-edge razor a few years ago. At first I really got into it with the shaving brush and European shave creams that have to be lathered in a bowl, but I got over all that pretty quickly. It's luxurious, but I just don't have time these days.
I got a sample of this stuff on a whim, and it wasn't much longer before I was purchasing this full-size bottle. The smell is not good at all, but the shave quality is AMAZING. It won't lather much, but it will create a nice protective layer for your razor to glide across. Highly recommended.
The two products that really stand out from the Billy Jealousy line is the Hydroplane Shave Cream (The best shave ever by a long mile), and the Shaved Ice After-Shave Balm (The best I have used). Both products have won awards as the best shave cream and best after-shave balm.
This shave cream is the best you will get out there. It is not the thick foamy kind, but trust me, it is far better. Far more slick. It contains micro silicon and also has a nice mosturizing effect. It does not dry your skin the way some soap or shaving gel does, and it really prevents nicks. Really smooth on the skin once you apply it and fairly easy to wash off without much best. I shave using electric razors, fusion proglide power, and also a straight razor.
I have bought this over and over again and I have not come across any other shave cream that has come close to this. It leads the way by a long mile. I have tried many other products recommended by friends as "the best", and still kept coming back to this product all the time. Interesting, those who recommend the other products, have never tried Billy Jealousy Hydroplane Shave Cream. Have they done so, I am sure they would agree with me. This is better by a long mile.
Shaving gels and soap is old school. This is the future.
I recently went from using a straight razor to an electric and purchased the Panasonic ES-LA93-K. It is a wet/dry razor that works extremely well. All along, I figured I would mostly be using it out of the shower and "dry", so that made me a little concerned. My skin is particularly sensitive and I wasn't sure what to expect by changing over to a whole different way of shaving.
Needless to say, along the way of reading up reviews on the actual electric shaver that I got, I also kept seeing recommendations for this Billy Jealousy Hydroplane Shave Cream to use in conjunction with it. Boy, am I glad I did!
I went ahead and purchased this at the same time as the shaver and have been using it with it every time I shave. Not only have I never experienced any irritation, the shaving cream actually helps the shaver to get a closer shave when I use it. It is light enough, that I don't have to use much (this will probably last me about 6 months) and it doesn't clog up the blades at all (I suppose if it did, I could just quickly rinse it under running water-but still).
There have also been a couple of times where I have left the shaver at work and have had to use a straight razor still. The Billy Jealousy HSC really works well for that too. Before, I was using gillette for extra sensitive skin--this works better! Zero irritation and a smoother, easier shave from the get-go. It also seems to moisturize my skin afterwards better.
I have officially switched! I've never had a better shave with any other shaving cream. I would highly recommend it!

Description
Dragging a blade across your face every day doesn't have to be a grind. Reinvent the lost art of smooth shaving with Hydroplane Shave Cream: a rich, technologically advanced, foamless cream that keeps you looking sharp and feeling noticed. After all, sometimes it isn't nice to play rough.
This hydroplane shave cream is good but there are better brands out there (proraso, taylor of old bond st). It is also lighter/thinner than most creams and doesn't leave any residue on your face. The best thing about it is that it rinses off very easily from my razor and from the sink too- doesn't gum everything up. I imagine it'd be great with an electric razor but I use a safety razor so I need something thicker. Price is high but I spend this much on 3 beers at happy hour and the bottle lasts a few months lol.
SHAVING- let me save you years of trial and error: take a warm shower & wash your face with billy jealousy exfoliating facial cleanser, shave afterwards with a $50 Merkur safety razor handle with good blades (save $100's on mach 3 refills!), use a $20 Tweezerman badger hair shaving brush to apply taylor of old street bond (or proraso) shaving cream (you can let it set in a minute), shave WITH the grain DOWN, SLOWLY, SOFTLY (don't press hard- let the weight of the handle and sharp blade do the cutting), lastly rub on a fingertip of proraso pre/post shave cream while your face is still wet and let it dry! Say goodbye to razor bumps and ingrown hairs FOREVER! Trust me- I've tried dozens of pricey face washes, shaving creams, and after shaves over the last 4 years. If you don't want to commit so much money yet- order the pre/post shave proraso cream online, buy proraso shave cream online or at bath and body works (under their C.O. Bigelow label) then get the cheap single blade disposables (mach 3's are too aggressive) at a grocery store and you'll notice a difference overnight.
Because of my beard type I seldom shave with a blade, electric shavers give me better results. As a result I don't use much shaving cream.
I recently stepped up to electric shavers that work wet/dry. I tried a rotary model and it didn't work well for my beard type...but I did try it with shaving cream as well...that wasn't a good experience. I found it worked better with just a wet face/razor. So I read about these shave creams that are not foam-based (as I said, not a frequent user of creams). I read about Billy Jealousy in a men's magazine I read and decided to give it a try. Boy am I glad I did.
First, let me say that this is a VERY large size bottle. I didn't do my mental math well and thought 8oz. was a bit small...unh, no it's very large. Especially when you don't need much of this at all for a great shave. This stuff is as slick as you can get. Even after a pass or two over an area, your skin is still slick. It rinses from the razor (electric or blade) very easily and clean-up is a cinch. It leaves your skin feeling and smelling very nice and you get one heckuva shave with it.
I still don't use this every day, but I find I don't need to. Once or twice a week and on the intervening days, my shaves are still very close as a result.
I am very happy to have this tool in my shaving "arsenal" and heartily recommend it to anyone, using any type of blade or shaver.
I have used it several times now and note that it is very slick, requires a small amount to do the job, leads to minimal razor burn. I may update in the future as it appears to be equally as good as Cremo and Headslick, the two competing brands that are also excellent products and cost less. Cremo, in particular, is very inexpensive yet seems to be equally good at providing a great shave with minimal razor burn
I rarely leave reviews - only if it's extraordinarily good or bad. Well this is extraordinarily good. First, I have a very coarse beard and very sensitive skin. If you have more average shaving needs, these gels might not make as big a difference to you. King of Shaves has been the best so far; it has good lubrication and thin enough to get a close shave. But BJ is that much better. It's super slick, thin enough to get a super close shave and seems to stick to your hair providing great nick protection and allowing you to shave a bit more aggressively if you like.
The Hydroplane shave cream from Billy Jealousy is super slick. It won’t work wonders if you go too long between shaving, but as long as I shave at least every other day, I get a smooth slick shave every time. A little goes a long way, which helps justify the price. It’s almost more of a transparent gel than a cream once applied. I don’t use it exclusively, more like an occasional treat.
