I bought this item for the first time last Christmas. Husband loved it so much so that I re-ordered it again for his birthday. Now it's Christmas again & of course this will be under the tree. Wonderful long lasting deliciousness! You won't be dissapointed.
Have not used Ogallala in a long time and used Old Spice in its absence, which I like.
However, I saw Ogallala while viewing Amazon and it triggered so many fond memories of compliments that I bought a bottle.
So many things of the past, when accessed in the present, are not as we remember them.
WELL OGALLALA BAY RUM SPECIAL RESERVE IS JUST AS WONDERFUL AND FRAGRANT TODAY AS IT WAS 20 YEARS AGO!!!!!!!!!!! Ogallala and Old Spice side by side. Almost too good!!!!!
I just received my bottle of Ogallala Special reserve and I'm very pleased. I shook the bottle as directed. When I first put it on I thought "well all I smell is clove" but once it settles in on your skin then you can pick up on quite a few different pleasing scents blending together that make this what I think is a fine product. I applied it right after shaving and it is invigorating to the skin. I read one review that said "it burns for a few seconds but in a very GOOD way". I'd agree with that,it feels very pleasant on the skin. Shipping was super fast and product came very well packaged.
Good stuff. Has an "air" of authenticity to it. The bottle is great too. It prevents you from dumping out an ounce or more at a time. The "double strength" aroma is very pleasant. I've tried various "bay rum" fragrances and this is by far the best currently available.

Genuine Ogallala Bay Rum products have a bold, refreshing fragrance...like you remember from years ago in the barber shop! It has much more fragrance than most...it smells like Bay Rum used to. Comes with a card that reads: From 1870-1885 Ogallala was the destination of countless cowboys driving cattle north from Texas to the railhead. It's a sure bet that as the boys hit town one of their first stops was a barbershop for a bath, shave and a haircut. After being splashed (quite generously) with the barber's own special mix of Bay Rum, he was ready to hit the saloon and talk to the young ladies who were anxious to sell him drinks. While we can't do much about the dance hall girls we can bring back that great old fashioned fragrance - Bay Rum! Genuine Ogallala Bay Rum is simply the best you'll find! A final note on this product. Never judge a cologne (any of em...not just ours) by the way it smells in the bottle. There are variables involved. How it smells on YOU after a little while is one of em. Another in our particular case is that several guys have noted that it seems to "mellow" on them after a few minutes and takes on a totally different aroma than what they sniff when they remove the cap.
Now this is bay rum! I recommend this to anyone looking for bay rum colognes. The smell is wonderful and the bottle is HUGE. You can't beat the scent or the price this is definitely a must buy.
Tried several bay rums before finding Ogallala. Stop searching and just buy this.
If you want staying power than the double strength is the way to go otherwise get the regular and the smell dissipates within an hour. This is one of my favorite bay rums and it's loaded with essential oils. Clove and cinnamon are present but you definitely can pick up on other notes too. I'd you're looking for a more bay oil heavy presence this may not be your favorite although it's in there but it's just not dominate.
This cologne is good but in another way it is rather unusual. What I mean is that it both acts and feels much more like an aftershave than a cologne. I purchased both the Bayrum & Sandalwood Aftershave and this cologne. The Aftershave is nice but there is no bite to it at all - zero. Customarily most if not all aftershaves provide that stinging/burning bite when first applied. Unfortunately NOT on this one. Whereas it is the exact opposite when it comes to the cologne. Initially I thought that perhaps there had been a mix up at the plant and both bottles had been mislabeled. But it's very hard to say one way or another. Overall, both are very nice but when they don't act as is commonly expected, well, a four star rating is as best as it can be awarded. One last thing - you shouldn't expect either to last very much beyond an hour. Two hours MAX. They drift off into the zone of nothing pretty quick. Much less staying time than anticipated.
As I have been trying alot of bay rums lately, had to get this one due to all of the good reviews (with the exception of a few negative ones). The bottle was packed very well, and arrived very fast. I think in just a few days. When I opened the cap to have a smell, it had a strong woodsy medicinal scent, that was not unpleasant, but not what I expected. However, after trying it out after a shave, I absolutely love the burn. This burn lasts for a good few minutes, and really has a punch. The medicinal smell starts to fade after a few minutes, and you are left with a scent that becomes as addictive as Captain's Choice (maybe even more so). It has a sweet, cinnamon, touch of vanilla fragrance. I love putting this on. Almost want to roll in it. I always have to put it on my t-shirt as well, as the fragrance lasts all day this way (not that it does'nt last on your skin, just lasts longer on clothing). All in all, I love it, and actually bought a second bottle of regular strength cologne. They are both fine products, and I will continue to use Ogallala bay rum.
